The purpose of the Friends of the Algur Meadows Museum is to support and encourage the advancement of art in the surrounding regions by establishing the Meadows Museum as a center of culture in the South. The Friends support the museum financially and through volunteer efforts to promote and sustain the museum’s mission.
The Meadows Museum of Art opened its doors in 1975, originally to house 350 paintings, watercolors and drawings of Indochina by the French Academic artist Jean Despujols, created between 1936-1938. Since that time, the permanent collection has grown to over 1,600 works reflecting a variety of world cultures and traditions - learn more here.
