The Meadows Museum of Art opened its doors in 1975, originally to house 350 paintings, watercolors and drawings of Indochina by the French Academic artist Jean Despujols, created between 1936-1938. The purpose of the Friends of the Algur Meadows Museum is to support and encourage the advancement of art in the surrounding regions by establishing the Meadows Museum as a center of culture in the South. The Friends support the museum financially and through volunteer efforts to promote and sustain the museum’s mission.
